2011 SUMO & NOODLE CHAMPS

Introducing the 2011 Sumo Tournament & Noodle Eating Contest Champions! Ian Allum of fire station 19 won the Sumo Tournament for the 2nd year in-a-row, and took home a $100 gift card & $500 donation check for the firehouse renovation. Wesley International Academy had the largest cheering squad, and make it all the way through to the final round. To watch the entire tournament in a 16 second stop-motion movie, visit here. Our annual Noodle Eating Contest brought out all ages of speed eaters competing for a big ol' gift card, T-shirt and bragging rights. Caroline Bray, daughter of the former two-time sumo champ Kelly Bray, took the title for 2011 Kids Noodle Champ. In the adult round, we had our first ever tie. Sharing the 2011 Noodle Champ title are professional eater and former noodle champ, Dale Boone, and William "Billy" Scaffidi. Way to go, Billy, for ranking with a professional eater on your very first eating contest! A big thank-you to everyone who came out to celebrate our 14th anniversary. The event raised about $7,000 for the restoration of Atlanta's oldest firehouse!

Through a series of fund-raising initiatives, we are able to raise money to benefit non-profit organizations within our local neighborhoods. Thanks to your support, we've raised over $100,000 since we started our charitable arm, HomeGrown Charities, 3 1/2 years ago. Some of our beneficiaries include: our neighborhood schools & fire stations, Oakland Cemetery, Atlanta tornado victims, Crime Stoppers, Atlanta Pride Committee and 45 other organizations. Stay tuned to our monthly e-news for ways that you can support our efforts in giving back to the neighborhoods we serve.
