THE MORNINGSIDE MILE RETURNS!

After saving the Historic Virginia-Highland Fire Station 19, Atlanta’s premiere 1-mile road race returns bigger and better than ever.

This year’s race kicks off the partnership between Morningside Lenox Park Association (MLPA), Virginia-Highland Civic Association (VCHA), Doc Chey’s and area businesses—we’re joining forces to revitalize the North Highland Corridor through Atlanta’s original intown neighborhoods.

The 8th Annual Race kicks it up a notch, setting our sites on improving the vital North Highland commercial district and streetscape.

For the first year ever, the race will begin close to the Virginia/North Highland intersection, run straight up North Highland Avenue through Virginia-Highland and Morningside and finish at Doc Chey’s Morningside.

Also new this year: chip timing, and a just-for-fun half-mile for kids 10 & under.

LIVE BAND

2 – 7 pm. The block party features My Friend Ian’s Band, a 5-piece group of the top musicians in Atlanta fronted by Ian Schumacher. Their repertoire of catchy original songs and unique interpretations of cover tunes from every genre imaginable, will keep the party rocking. Ian’s voice, often compared to Van Morrison, Scott Weiland, Cat Stevens, John Mayer, and Jim Morrison, will charm partyers of all ages. In addition, Ian has promised to bring along the winners of the Tin Roof Acoustic Showdown to play additional selections.
